About Us
Peacebuilding, leadership, personal resilience, and trauma-informed practice belong together. Lasting peace depends on leaders who can sustain themselves, foster this same personal sustainability in their teams, act wisely under pressure, and work with the realities of trauma rather than around them.

Funding rarely reflects this. In the peace field, leadership and wellbeing are often treated as add-ons, and trauma-informed practice too often remains a label rather than a lived commitment. Work in any of these areas individually, let alone work that brings all four together, struggles to find support.

We have spent decades doing this work with individuals, groups, and organisations, and we have seen that gap first-hand. Humanity's Thread exists to help close it.
What We Do
Humanity's Thread brings funding and people together at the nexus of peacebuilding, leadership, personal resilience, and trauma-informed practice. We do this in three ways.

Convening gatherings. We secure funding for gatherings we initiate and contract experienced partners to facilitate them and, at times, organise the logistics.
​
Sponsoring gatherings. We fund gatherings run by others, either in full or in specific parts.
​
Offering scholarships. We support peacebuilders to take part in gatherings that will strengthen their work and the communities they serve.
Our Roots
We come from different parts of the peacebuilding field, and by 2016 we had each spent many years in this work. That year, a respected elder in the peace field convened a small, hand-picked group of practitioners for a retreat-style gathering in the mountains of Colorado. It was a space to learn, experiment, practise, and grow: a masterclass in how to do this work well, and a push to make it more relevant to the challenges of the time. From there, we all went out to put it into action.

That gathering shaped everything that followed, and it remains the foundation of our approach today. At the time, we called the group Humanity's Thread. Today, we carry the name forward to honour our colleagues, the learning, and the connections that began there.
Where We're Going
Humanity's Thread is a registered Australian charity. With an initial focus on the Asia Pacific region, we have a longer-term vision of becoming a significant global funder of this work, supporting far more practitioners and gatherings than we could ever reach on our own. We are governed by a board and guided by robust policies so that funding decisions are made transparently and in service of the work.
